Autumn is a lovely time to take stock of your skin. After warmer weather, holidays, changes in routine and perhaps a little more sun exposure than usual, skin can start to feel dull, congested, dehydrated or just slightly off. Then, as the weather turns cooler and the heating goes on, it can become drier, more sensitive or unpredictable.

The answer is not to throw ten new products at it. A good autumn reset is about simplifying your routine, supporting your skin barrier and choosing any professional treatments with enough time for your skin to settle before Christmas.

Start with the basics

Before adding stronger active products or booking a treatment, come back to the foundations:

  • A cleanser that suits your skin rather than leaving it tight or squeaky
  • Hydration that feels comfortable and consistent
  • A moisturiser that supports your skin when the air becomes cooler and drier
  • SPF on days when you will be spending prolonged time outdoors
  • Introducing only one new product or active ingredient at a time

It sounds simple, but it makes a real difference. When skin is already irritated or overwhelmed, adding more exfoliants, masks and actives can make it harder to work out what is helping and what is causing a reaction.

Your skin may change across your menstrual cycle as well as with the seasons. If you notice breakouts, dryness or sensitivity at certain times, keep a note of your own pattern rather than changing your whole routine according to a fixed calendar. I’ll be sharing more practical advice in my Skin & Your Cycle series this month.

Think ahead if you would like a treatment before Christmas

If you would like smoother, brighter or more even-looking skin for the festive season, October is a sensible time to start the conversation.

Professional treatments are not a quick fix for every concern, and the right option depends on your skin, your current routine, your lifestyle and what you are hoping to achieve. Some treatments also work best as part of a course rather than as a one-off appointment.

Planning early means we can choose a treatment timeline that feels realistic, rather than rushing something close to an event.

Treatment Spotlight: Obagi Blue Peel Radiance

This month’s treatment spotlight is the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance.

It is a superficial professional peel designed to refresh the look of dull, congested or uneven skin. It can be a great option for someone who wants to focus on brightness, texture and a fresher-looking complexion as we move into autumn.

October offer: 30% off

Throughout October, Obagi Blue Peel Radiance treatments are 30% off, from £66.50 (usually from £95).

Book your appointment below, or message me if you would like to check whether a peel is right for your skin first.

A peel is not automatically right for everyone. Your skin should be assessed first, particularly if you are using active skincare, have very sensitive skin, are prone to pigmentation or are dealing with an active skin condition.

Your consultation is where we talk through this properly and make sure the treatment and aftercare fit your skin.

Where does microneedling fit in?

Microneedling is another treatment many people start considering at this time of year, particularly where concerns include texture, the appearance of acne scarring or a desire to support firmer, healthier-looking skin over time.

It is a different treatment with a different purpose and recovery period. The best choice is not necessarily the treatment you have seen most on social media. It is the one that makes sense for your skin and your goal.

Sometimes a peel is the better starting point. Sometimes microneedling is more appropriate. Sometimes your skin would benefit from a period of simple, consistent home care first.

Your October skin checklist

  1. Look at what you are currently using and remove anything that is clearly irritating your skin.
  2. Prioritise hydration and barrier support as the weather changes.
  3. Avoid over-exfoliating at home. More is not always better.
  4. If you want a treatment before Christmas, start planning now rather than leaving it until December.
  5. Ask for advice before choosing an active ingredient or professional treatment.

Healthy-looking skin is usually built through consistency, not pressure. A routine that works with your skin is always a better investment than chasing every new trend.
